Ok, so it is the Chinese Lunar New Year, most chinese family will go visiting. It is at this time that many of us may only see some of our relatives for this very time and never see them again for the rest of the year. Even though we have not seen them for a very long time, everyone seems to be trying to get along especially at the mahjong table or gambling area. Why is that so? Is it due to the fact that gambling allows one to interact non-verbally just using simple gestures, such as the way they see cards, pick up tiles, their expressions ? Do we classify this as non-verbal communication?
Yes, I'd say that in every game, from mah jong to basketball, there are many associated nonverbals.
ReplyDeleteHi,sorry,I'm not a fan of gambling or mahjong,so i can not really understand the non-verbal communication in those things.
ReplyDeleteHowever,i kind of agree with you, because my parents are huge fans of poker and majhong, and they do make many close friends from the gambling table, maybe that's the so-called non-verbal communication bond them together. If i have got a chance to talk about this topic with my parents,i will tell you their opinions haha~
By the way,Happy New Year!!
I guess from the everyday busy lifestyle Singaporeans lead, they look forward to gatherings and of course interactive games! Especially mahjong, it is much easier to find four players during such gathering!
ReplyDeleteI would prefer to say these are bonding activities to bring people closer together. Probably 'indirectly' communicating nonverbally!
Thanks all for your comments. Indeed, after a few rounds of "mahjong" one can observe each individual's body language. Really intriguing
